The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Transition Follows Poor Reception
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last autumn.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer notified staff about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer expressed that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to address gamer demands.
A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment
The news follows a comparable move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.
Below is the entire message from the president's announcement:
Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative creators we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to continue.”
Through your commitment and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The community feedback from last fall’s the game playtest was enlightening. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the need for a clearer vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the input to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s positioned to fulfill its ambition to our players.
The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To boost the incredible progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the new Studio Head of the team. Following some time of talks, he officially joins us on the specified date.
Ben’s management and background in the PVP shooter field is considerable, having devoted the recent years producing and leading some of the most popular series in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in welcoming him in the coming days. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the development of the game in the months to ahead.
The President
Background of the Incoming Leader
The appointee currently serves in the role of senior developer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier was employed at major gaming companies in multiple development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, before that, had periods at other industry leaders.
Game Details and Concept
Project Ethos was announced in last year alongside a public demo. Then, the developers described the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative step forward on the category."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the official summary reads. "Challenge the rivals with fresh skills, challenges, and tests that evolve every round. Do you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Or aim high, gamble everything, and hope your group can secure victory? The decision is in your hands."
Project Ethos lacks an official debut schedule or consoles, but fans can expect further news as development continues.
