Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, fiends, and sinister influences growing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will split off from the main group to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as key figures in House Halovar could assist the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Questers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which players will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
